HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles
4 Eugene "Charlie" White, former Mayor of Mattoon, on November
5 20, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Charles White was born November 24, 1932, in
7 Xenia, a son of Freddie Ernest and Bessie (Gould) White; he
8 married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Chamberlin, on
9 April 19, 1952; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Charlie White was President of the former Mattoon
11 Bank and later served as Executive Vice-President of First
12 Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust; he gave of himself in community
13 service for over 43 years, serving part of that time as City
14 Treasurer, Police Commissioner, and recently as Mayor of the
15 City of Mattoon; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Charlie White was selected by the Mattoon
17 Association of Commerce as the Man of the Year for 1984; he was
18 a 32nd Degree Mason, York Rite and member of the Shriner's; he
19 served on the Lake Land College Foundation Board of Directors,
20 was Past President of E.I.U. Panther Club, and a member and
21 Pilgrim of the Moose as well as Past President of the Illinois
22 Moose Association; and

1     WHEREAS, He will be remembered as a basketball coach at St.
2 Joseph's School and at one time as the youngest referee for the
3 State of Illinois; he helped raise funds for the Junior
4 Football League in Mattoon and was a member of the Mattoon High
5 School Letterman's Club; he remained active in politics
6 throughout his life and served as founding member of the
7 Volunteer Republican Boosters; he also enjoyed a membership in
8 Ducks Unlimited; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Charles White is survived by his loving and
10 devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Ann White; his five children,
11 Cathy J. Barnes and husband David, Donald H. White and wife
12 Barbara, Michele A. "Missy" Lock and husband Albert, John C.
13 White and wife Julie, and Eric A. White and wife Christina; his
14 brother, Howard G. White; his three sisters, Aline Henson,
15 Juanita Greene, and Erna Doty; his fifteen grandchildren; and
16 his nine great-grandchildren; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and one
18 sister, Lula Mae White; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21 remember Charles White and his life and extend our condolences
22 to the family at this time; and be it further

3 sympathy.
