HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to commend Jon Brough, former
4 police Sergeant with the Belleville Police Department; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jon Brough worked for the Belleville Police
6 Department for 22 years, serving as a Drug Abuse Resistance
7 Education (DARE) officer for five years in the Belleville
8 schools; he then served four years as an undercover officer
9 with the Illinois State Police drug task force; and
 
10     WHEREAS, While attempting to apprehend the suspected
11 murderer of an elderly couple, Jon Brough was the first officer
12 to enter the home where a suspect was hiding; the suspect
13 opened fire and critically wounded the officer; Officer Brough
14 was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital where he
15 remained in a coma for three weeks; as a result of the shooting
16 he was blinded and continues to undergo numerous rehabilitative
17 surgeries; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Jon Brough received the Illinois Law Enforcement
19 Medal of Honor, awarded to law enforcement members who are
20 killed or seriously injured in the line of duty or have
21 displayed exceptional bravery; and

1     WHEREAS, Jon Brough was one of the first two officers from
2 Belleville to receive the award; at the awards ceremony, held
3 at the Executive Mansion in Springfield, Jon Brough received a
4 one-minute standing ovation when he received his award; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jon Brough and his wife, Wendy, have two children,
6 Jon Jr., and Paul; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 commend Jon Brough for his bravery in the line of duty and wish
10 him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Jon Brough as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
