| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the |
3 |
| Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Carolyn |
4 |
| Griffin Palmer on the occasion of her retirement from the |
5 |
| Chicago Public Schools after 36 years of service; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Carolyn Griffin Palmer graduated from Calumet |
7 |
| High School; she earned her bachelor's degree from Jackson |
8 |
| State University and her master's degree from Roosevelt |
9 |
| University; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Carolyn Griffin Palmer began her career with the |
11 |
| Chicago Public Schools in 1972 as a physical education teacher, |
12 |
| working at Middle, Senn, and Corliss High Schools; she was |
13 |
| known for her cheerleading squads, winning many city, State, |
14 |
| and national championships; she also served as commentator for |
15 |
| half time activities during the high school championship |
16 |
| basketball games; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, In 1986, Carolyn Griffin Palmer moved to |
18 |
| Olive-Harvey College, where she provided and assisted students |
19 |
| with college preparation and scholarships as Assistant Dean of |
20 |
| Student Affairs; she also served as project director of the |
21 |
| National Youth Sports Program, where she won 3 National |
22 |
| Excellence Awards; and
|

| WHEREAS, Carolyn Griffin Palmer returned to the Chicago |
2 |
| Public Schools in 1996, serving as director of After School |
3 |
| Programs at Simeon Career Academy High School; as director, she |
4 |
| coordinated one of the first Saturday for credit programs for |
5 |
| seniors; in 2000, she became assistant principal of South Shore |
6 |
| High School; in 2002, she served as the assistant to the Area |
7 |
| Insrtuctional Officer for Area 23; she then worked for the |
8 |
| central office as a troubleshooter, serving as interim |
9 |
| principal for Deneen and Washington Elementary Schools; and she |
10 |
| served as principal of Spencer Math and Science Academy at the |
11 |
| time of her retirement; and |
12 |
| WHEREAS, Carolyn Griffin Palmer is active in many civic |
13 |
| organizations; she is a member of the Chicago Principal's |
14 |
| Association and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; she is a member |
15 |
| of the board of the New City Health Center; and she serves as |
16 |
| the Education Scholarship Chairman of the Quentin B. Garth |
17 |
| Foundation, a foundation that has raised millions of dollars |
18 |
| for aspiring college students; and |
19 |
| WHEREAS, Carolyn Griffin Palmer has received many awards in |
20 |
| honor of her accomplishments, including the Kizzy Award, an |
21 |
| induction into the Black Women's Hall of Fame, Outstanding |
22 |
| Educator and Role Model Awards, an Outstanding Educator Award |
23 |
| from U.S. Congressman Danny Davis, and a Life Time Achievement |

| Award from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; and |
2 |
| WHEREAS, Carolyn Griffin Palmer has been married to Isaac |
3 |
| Lavelle for 35 years; she is the proud mother of two daughters, |
4 |
| LaCael Palmer-Pratt and Karilyn Ellena, and her son-in-law, |
5 |
| Alex Pratt; and she is the loving grandmother of Alexander |
6 |
| Adonis Pratt; and |
7 |
| WHEREAS, Carolyn Griffin Palmer's dedication to her |
8 |
| profession and her willingness to serve her community make her |
9 |
| a model for the citizens of the State of Illinois; therefore, |
10 |
| be it
|
11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
12 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
13 |
| congratulate Carolyn Griffin Palmer on the occasion of her |
14 |
| retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the |
15 |
| future; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
17 |
| presented to Carolyn Griffin Palmer as a symbol of our respect |
18 |
| and esteem.
