HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leo
4 DeMeyer of Grayslake, who passed away on July 19, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Leo DeMeyer grew up toiling on a Lake County farm
6 in an era before electricity and automation, carrying that work
7 ethic into everything he did; he borrowed money from local
8 farmers to found Grayslake Feed Sales in 1940, realizing the
9 growing need for grain, feed, and farm supplies for the 1,250
10 dairy farms and roughly 400 cattle, hog, and poultry farms in
11 Lake County; the business is still family owned and operated by
12 DeMeyer's son, John; he also ran a 160-acre farm in the Round
13 Lake area, raised horses, and was involved in horse riding
14 clubs; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Leo DeMeyer served the Village of Grayslake as a
16 trustee from 1947 to 1961, and as mayor from 1961 to 1965; as a
17 trustee, he headed the committee to remodel Grayslake's village
18 hall; he was a charter member and past president of the
19 Grayslake Lions Club, a founding member of the Grayslake
20 Chamber of Commerce, and director and founding member of the
21 Lake County Savings & Loan; he was involved with the Squaw
22 Creek Drainage District for 10 years, the Grayslake Fire
23 Department for 20 years, and was a precinct committeeman for

1 the Republican Party; he was a member of the Knights of
2 Columbus, the Grayslake Exchange Club, and St. Gilbert Catholic
3 Church; and he was a Boy Scout leader; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Leo DeMeyer was known throughout the Grayslake
5 community as a person who supported the village in anything
6 that it needed; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Leo
10 DeMeyer; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Leo DeMeyer as an expression of our
13 sympathy.
