| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the |
4 |
| Antioch Lions Club on the 70th anniversary of the service |
5 |
| organization; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, The Antioch Lions Club is celebrating seventy |
7 |
| years of service to the community of Antioch and the |
8 |
| surrounding area; the club was organized on July 16, 1937 under |
9 |
| the leadership of Edmund Vos; today the Antioch Lions Club |
10 |
| exceeds 120 members, making it one of the largest Clubs in the |
11 |
| State of Illinois; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, The objectives of the Antioch Lions Club are to |
13 |
| advance the civic and general interest of the Village of |
14 |
| Antioch and
the Chain of Lakes Region, to uphold the principles |
15 |
| of good government, and to encourage the application of the |
16 |
| highest standards in business, commerce, and industry by the |
17 |
| exchange of ideas and methods; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS,
The Lions Club took the Antioch Rescue Squad under |
19 |
| its wing; the Rescue Squad was started in 1939 by three |
20 |
| volunteer firemen; by 1946 the Rescue Squad was struggling, |
21 |
| needing both manpower and funding; Lions Club members |
22 |
| volunteered to join the squad and began to back the Rescue |

| Squad financially; in 1972 the Rescue Squad became the first |
2 |
| advanced life support unit with Paramedics to be certified in |
3 |
| the State of Illinois; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Each Thanksgiving and again at Christmas the Lions |
5 |
| Club distributes food baskets to needy families;
the Antioch |
6 |
| Lions Club has helped serve the needs of the visually impaired, |
7 |
| with thousands of dollars spent annually for eye examinations, |
8 |
| eye glasses, visual tech machines, guide dogs for the blind, |
9 |
| the eye research center, and institutions such as the Hadley |
10 |
| School for the Blind and CRIS Radio; and |
11 |
| WHEREAS, Two days each fall the Lions are out on street |
12 |
| corners for "Candy Days for Humanitarian Services"; candy sales |
13 |
| go to help the hearing impaired, the blind, people with |
14 |
| diabetes, drug abuse programs, and many other service areas; |
15 |
| and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, In addition, the Antioch Lions Club have donated |
17 |
| $20,000 to the Antioch Rescue Squad for their new truck |
18 |
| chassis; the Club donated $15,000 to the Antioch Centennial |
19 |
| Playground project for the purchase of wood chip safety ground |
20 |
| cover; the Club collects over 500 used eyeglasses annually that |
21 |
| are sent to the Lions of Illinois Foundation;
three truckloads |
22 |
| of food, clothing, and hygiene products were collected and |
23 |
| driven to the victims of Hurricane Katrina; and each year the |
|

| Antioch Lions award scholarships to Antioch students and have |
2 |
| done so for more than fifty years; therefore, be it
|
3 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
4 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
5 |
| congratulate the members of the Antioch Lions Club on their |
6 |
| celebration of seventy years of service; and be it further
|
7 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 |
| presented to the members of the Antioch Lions Club as a symbol |
9 |
| of our respect.
