| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Leona Charest of |
4 |
| Boulder Hill on the occasion of celebrating her 90th birthday |
5 |
| on July 29, 2007; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Leona Charest was born on July 29, 1917 in |
7 |
| Sedalia, Indiana; her family moved to Illinois when she was |
8 |
| very young; her father, Guy A. Taylor, was killed in an auto |
9 |
| accident when she was 3 years old; she, along with her sister |
10 |
| Edna Mae Isbell and brother Alvin G. Taylor, went to live at |
11 |
| Mooseheart Orphanage in Batavia, where her mother was employed; |
12 |
| her mother then married Otto Anderson, and the family lived on |
13 |
| a farm in Batavia, where she grew up; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Leona Charest was a very exceptionally bright |
15 |
| child, and was moved up 2 grades while in school; she graduated |
16 |
| from Batavia High School at the age of 15; she went on to |
17 |
| become a nurse, working at Community Hospital in Geneva until |
18 |
| she married Thomas A. Charest on January 7, 1950 and moved to |
19 |
| Aurora; unable to have any children of their own, Leona and |
20 |
| Thomas became foster parents, helping many children who needed |
21 |
| temporary homes; they ended up adopting four daughters of their |
22 |
| own; and
|

| WHEREAS, In 1965, Leona Charest and her family moved to a |
2 |
| small unincorporated subdivision in Kendall County called |
3 |
| Boulder Hill, where Leona still lives today; Leona and Thomas |
4 |
| became very involved in their community; Thomas was a member of |
5 |
| the Kendall County Board and represented the Boulder Hill |
6 |
| community until his passing in November 1996, and Leona was a |
7 |
| member of the Kendall County Republican Women's Club, and was |
8 |
| the president for several years; she also served on the Child & |
9 |
| Family Services Board and the Jennings Terrace Board; she also |
10 |
| had memberships with the Welcome Wagon, Garden Club, and |
11 |
| Antique Club; she has very strong beliefs in God, her country, |
12 |
| her family, and her community; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Leona Charest has 4 daughters, Susan, Polly, |
14 |
| Dolly, and Patti; she also has 7 grandchildren and 8 |
15 |
| great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
16 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
17 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
18 |
| congratulate Leona Charest on this milestone birthday and
wish |
19 |
| her good health and happiness in the future; and be it further
|
20 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 |
| presented to Leona Charest as a symbol of our esteem and |
22 |
| respect.
