HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Army Specialist Karen Nicole Clifton of Mt. Zion, who
5 died bravely on June 21, 2007, from combat related injuries in
6 Baghdad, Iraq; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Karen Clifton was born May 10, 1985 in Decatur,
8 the daughter of Doug V. Clifton and Chris (Maurer) Hancock; she
9 attended Mt. Zion schools through her junior year and was
10 active in the Mt. Zion Police Department Explorer's Program;
11 she moved to Florida in her senior year and finished her high
12 school education and then returned to Illinois and enlisted in
13 the United States Army to begin a career with the Military
14 Police; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Karen Clifton was serving her country and obtained
16 the rank of Specialist in the 544th MP CO, Forward Platoon,
17 630th MP CO, 759th MP Battalion, 89th MP Brigade, U.S. Army,
18 serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Karen Clifton was posthumously promoted to the
20 rank of Corporal and awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart,
21 Combat Action Badge, and the Army Good Conduct Medal; and

1     WHEREAS, United States Army Corporal Karen Clifton is
2 survived by her father, Doug V. Clifton; her mother, Chris
3 Hancock; her sisters, Cindy Blackston and her husband Blake,
4 and Katie Maple; her step-sister, Heather Maple; her
5 step-brother, Sean Maple; her grandparents, Vernon and Carol
6 Clifton and Sheila and Richard Cairns; her grandfather, Lee
7 Maurer; her nephew, Corbin Davis; her niece, Allysa Davis; as
8 well as many aunts, uncles and cousins; she was preceded in
9 death by one niece; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 mourn, along with her family, friends, and the community of
13 Mount Zion, the passing of United States Army Corporal Karen N.
14 Clifton; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Corporal Karen
16 Clifton and her willingness to serve our country which led to
17 her making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Karen N. Clifton as a symbol of our
20 sympathy.
