2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Robin Hambleton on | ||||||
4 | his service as Dean of the College of Urban Planning and Public | ||||||
5 | Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and to extend | ||||||
6 | best wishes to him on his new position as Professor of City | ||||||
7 | Leadership at the University of the West of England in Bristol, | ||||||
8 | United Kingdom; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Robin Hambleton joined the faculty of the | ||||||
10 | University of Illinois at Chicago on April 1, 2002; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Robin Hambleton has been responsible for many | ||||||
12 | accomplishments during his tenure as Dean of CUPPA at UIC; he | ||||||
13 | is responsible for the outstanding progress made on the | ||||||
14 | implementation of CUPPA's 2010 Strategic Plan, making | ||||||
15 | significant progress only halfway into the proposed timeline; | ||||||
16 | and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Robin Hambleton has been instrumental in the rise | ||||||
18 | of the status and reputation of CUPPA within the fields of | ||||||
19 | urban planning and public administration, making UIC's Urban | ||||||
20 | Planning and Policy program the largest graduate planning | ||||||
21 | program and one of the top programs in the United States; a | ||||||
22 | recent comparative assessment of U.S. Public Administrative |

1 | programs examining scholarly outputs and research performance | ||||||
2 | placed the program as the top public university program in the | ||||||
3 | country, and third overall; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Robin Hambleton was integral in the creation and | ||||||
5 | introduction of an innovative Undergraduate Degree in Urban and | ||||||
6 | Public Affairs; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Robin Hambleton has played a crucial role in the | ||||||
8 | strengthening of the national and international profile of | ||||||
9 | CUPPA and UIC; the International City Futures Conferences held | ||||||
10 | in 2004 was the first step of a process that has seen CUPPA | ||||||
11 | re-position itself as both a national leader and a respected | ||||||
12 | global player in the field of urban and public affairs; in July | ||||||
13 | 2008 the College will host the Joint Conference of the | ||||||
14 | Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and the | ||||||
15 | Association of European Schools of Planning, an event that will | ||||||
16 | likely be the largest international conference ever held in the | ||||||
17 | US; in April 2009, the College will host the Annual Conference | ||||||
18 | of the Urban Affairs Association; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Robin Hambleton's dedication to his profession | ||||||
20 | has truly been a model for the people of the State of Illinois; | ||||||
21 | therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

1 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
2 | congratulate Robin Hambleton on his service to the University | ||||||
3 | of Illinois at Chicago and on his new position at the | ||||||
4 | University of the West of England in Bristol, and wish him | ||||||
5 | continued success and happiness in the future; and be it | ||||||
