HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Barbara J. Popish 
4
on her retirement as Assistant Principal of Nightingale 
5
Elementary School; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Barbara J. Popish has made a difference in the 
7
lives of children in the Chicago Public Schools for 34 years; 
8
she began her teaching career at Shields Elementary School, 
9
then went on
to teach at Aldridge Elementary School, Davis 
10
School, and Nightingale Elementary School; she taught special 
11
education students before moving on to
teaching computer 
12
science; she served as the technology coordinator at 
13
Nightingale School; she was the Assistant
Principal at 
14
Nightingale School for five and a half years, where she became 
15
a sought after administrator and
mentor to every teacher
at the 
16
school; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Barbara J. Popish  successfully ran school wide 
18
projects such as the school newspaper, the TNT, and the Kid 
19
Witness News; the KWN won many awards under her leadership; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Barbara J. Popish has a long and distinguished 
21
record of public advocacy; she advocated for the Anti-Cruelty 
22
Society; she represented the teachers on the Local School

Council; she authored many grants for Nightingale School, 
2
winning money and programs for the students and teachers; and 
3
she worked closely with the PTA, linking parents and teachers 
4
in partnership throughout her community; and

    WHEREAS, Barbara J. Popish is married to the very 
6
understanding BJ Parish; she is the daughter of Emma and the 
7
late Andrew Popish; she is the sister of Dennis Popish; she is 
8
the sister-in-law of Lois Popish; she is the aunt of Dana and 
9
Todd Popish; and she is the cousin of Susan and her daughters 
10
Kately, Sara, and Lauren; therefore, be it

 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
congratulate Barbara J. Popish on her retirement and wish her 
14
continued success and happiness in the future; and be it 
15
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17
presented to Barbara J. Popish as a symbol of our esteem and 
18
respect.
