HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Vermilion County Sheriff's Department Captain John Howard on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Capt. John Howard was born in Peoria, but lived in the Danville/Westville area for most of his life; he graduated from Westville High School and then enlisted in the Marines, where he was stationed in California; and

WHEREAS, After his service ended in 1972, Capt. John Howard joined the Westville Police Department; he served there for four years until 1976, when he joined the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department; he served in many positions before his promotion to captain in the late 1990s; he was an investigator for 22 years prior to his promotion, where he was part of an elite detective team in the county; and

WHEREAS, Along with serving as an officer, Capt. John Howard has been a "part-time" farmer for the last 25 years; he raises cattle for beef, and recently began to raise deer; he is also a self-proclaimed avid hunter, enjoying all types of game hunting; and

WHEREAS, Capt. John Howard has been married to his wife, Nana, for more than 20 years; he has two sons, Michael and Johnny; and

WHEREAS, During his retirement, Capt. John Howard plans to maintain his farm and take frequent hunting trips, among other pursuits he wishes to explore; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Captain John Howard on his retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Captain John Howard as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
