| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Local 318 of the |
| 4 |
| International Union of Operating Engineers on the occasion of |
| 5 |
| celebrating its 75th anniversary on June 9, 2007; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Local 318 was founded in Harrisburg in 1932; it |
| 7 |
| was moved to Marion in 1996, where it currently resides; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Local 318 takes pride in providing operators for |
| 9 |
| the 14 most southern counties in Illinois; it is made up of 900 |
| 10 |
| skilled operators and hundreds of signatory contractors along |
| 11 |
| with shops, city workers, and quarries throughout the area; its |
| 12 |
| unionized market share is above average for the nation at 98 |
| 13 |
| percent; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Local 318 values the training of its members; it |
| 15 |
| has a growing apprenticeship facility, providing |
| 16 |
| apprenticeship, entry level training, and journeymen upgrade |
| 17 |
| training to all of its members; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Local 318 is a strong community based operation |
| 19 |
| that provides support to area charities; it has established a |
| 20 |
| scholarship fund that assists the dependents of Local 318's |
| 21 |
| members with their college tuition; therefore, be it
