2 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | ||||||
3 | State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Reyniesha Sharp | ||||||
4 | on being named the Youth of the Year for the State of Illinois | ||||||
5 | by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA); and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Miss Sharp is an nine-year member of the Boys & | ||||||
7 | Girls Club of Alton; in addition to winning this prestigious | ||||||
8 | title, she will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Reader's | ||||||
9 | Digest Foundation; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The Youth of the Year program, which has been | ||||||
11 | nationally sponsored by the Reader's Digest Foundation for 59 | ||||||
12 | years, recognizes outstanding contributions to a member's | ||||||
13 | family, school, community, and Boys & Girls Club, as well as | ||||||
14 | personal challenges and obstacles overcome; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, By being an active member in her Club, Miss Sharp | ||||||
16 | was chosen to represent the Club in leadership and | ||||||
17 | entrepreneurial conferences, in which she lectured on topics | ||||||
18 | concerning youth; she is a member of the Keystone Club, a teen | ||||||
19 | group that practices leadership through learning and community | ||||||
20 | service, and she participates in all core programs at the Club; | ||||||
21 | she also volunteers with the Club's homework assistance | ||||||
22 | program, which led to her being hired as program assistant in |

1 | the social and recreational area; her involvement with the Club | ||||||
2 | has deemed her a leader and role model to other youth; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, She attends Alton High School and participates in | ||||||
4 | many extracurricular activities, including the Lewis and Clark | ||||||
5 | Community College Upward Bound program, track, basketball, and | ||||||
6 | tennis; she has volunteered at nursing homes, participated in | ||||||
7 | community clean-ups in elderly communities, school zones, and | ||||||
8 | impoverished neighborhoods, and tutored fourth grade | ||||||
9 | elementary students; she has a true concern for others and a | ||||||
10 | strong willingness to better her community; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Miss Sharp will compete against other youth from | ||||||
12 | states located in BGCA's Midwest Region; regional winners will | ||||||
13 | then advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C.; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
16 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | congratulate Reyniesha Sharp on being named the Youth of the | ||||||
18 | Year for the State of Illinois by Boys & Girls Clubs of | ||||||
19 | America; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to Miss Sharp as an expression of our esteem.
