| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor Karen Baker, the first |
4 |
| female police officer in the history of the City of |
5 |
| Bloomington, who will retire on June 11, 2007; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Karen Baker was hired February 25, 1985; during |
7 |
| her 22-year law enforcement career, she served as a patrol |
8 |
| officer, and as a Field Training Officer; she was selected to |
9 |
| help implement a newly formed Domestic Violence Unit in 2000 |
10 |
| and served as one of the two original Domestic Violence |
11 |
| Investigators when the Domestic Violence Unit was a stand-alone |
12 |
| operation; she transitioned it into the Criminal Investigation |
13 |
| Division where she continued to serve as a General Investigator |
14 |
| specializing in Domestic Violence cases; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Karen Baker has not used a single hour of sick |
16 |
| time since May of I995;
in August of 1988 she received a letter |
17 |
| of recognition for apprehending a suspect in a burglary in |
18 |
| progress; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, In June of 1995 she was recognized by the Illinois |
20 |
| State Police for her assistance in a local gang sweep, taking |
21 |
| wanted persons off the streets of the community; in September |
22 |
| of 1997 the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners recognized |
