HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Lula Bronson on her 
4
retirement as Vice-President of the Service Employees 
5
International Union (SEIU) Local 880; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Lula Bronson has been a member of SEIU Local 880 
7
and has served as Vice-President since 2004; she has been a 
8
member of the Executive Board for 11 years; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Lula Bronson was a leader in the campaign to pass 
10
the Chicago Living Wage Ordinance in 1997; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Lula Bronson was a member of the Department of 
12
Rehabilitation Services Personal Assistant bargaining 
13
committee, negotiating the first contract in 2003 and winning a 
14
35% wage increase for more than 23,000 workers across the State 
15
of Illinois; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Through her efforts more than 40,000 home child 
17
care providers received recognition and collective bargaining 
18
rights in 2005; she served as a member of the bargaining 
19
committee that won an average 35% rate increase and established 
20
the first health care fund for home child care providers; and

    WHEREAS, Lula Bronson has committed her life to ensuring 
2
that others receive quality, home-based care, and that 
3
caregivers receive the respect that they deserve for their hard 
4
work; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
7
congratulate Lula Bronson for her hard work and dedication to 
8
the men and women of Service Employees International Union 
9
Local 880 and wish her the best on her retirement; and be it 
10
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12
presented to Lula Bronson as a symbol of our respect and 
13
esteem.
