HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to commemorate the 100th
4 anniversary of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company, October
5 11, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, A four-story resort hotel, the Glen Ellyn Hotel,
7 burned to the ground in 1906; because of the destruction, the
8 establishment of the first water system in the community, as
9 well as the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company, came about; and
 
10     WHEREAS, On October 11, 1907 the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire
11 Department was chartered; Harry Blackburn was appointed Fire
12 Chief by village president Edgar McChesney and 22 men were
13 enrolled to serve as volunteer firefighters; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The 60 men and women who today serve on the Glen
15 Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company are still there as volunteers,
16 serving their neighbors and friends in Glen Ellyn 24 hours a
17 day, 365 days a year; and
 
18     WHEREAS, With over 700 years of experience in firefighting
19 and rescue services, the mission of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer
20 Fire Company is to provide timely, professional, and safe
21 emergency service for the preservation of life and property;

1 minimizing fire loss and the patient's best interest are always
2 first priority with the Company; and
 
 
3     WHEREAS, The current Fire Chief is Scott Raffensparger, who
4 has served from 2001 to the present day; he is the Company's
5 first paid Administrator due to the growing demands of the Fire
6 Company; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 congratulate the men and women who have served the community of
10 Glen Ellyn as a part of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company
11 and thank them for their dedication to their friends' and
12 neighbors' safety; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Scott Raffensparger, Fire Chief of the Glen Ellyn
15 Volunteer Fire Company, as a symbol of our respect.
