| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The week of April 22 through April 28, 2007 is | ||||||
3 | recognized as National Victims' Rights Week; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, In October of 1985 former DuPage County State's | ||||||
5 | Attorney James E. Ryan convened a Task Force on Child Sexual | ||||||
6 | Abuse to design a comprehensive plan for the investigation, | ||||||
7 | prosecution, and treatment of child sex abuse in DuPage County; | ||||||
8 | as a result of the task force recommendation, the DuPage County | ||||||
9 | Children's Sex Abuse Center, now known as the Children's | ||||||
10 | Advocacy Center, was founded in March of 1987; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The DuPage County Children's Advocacy Center | ||||||
12 | provides a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing the | ||||||
13 | special needs of children who are victims of sexual or serious | ||||||
14 | physical abuse in DuPage County; the first of such centers in | ||||||
15 | Illinois and only the second in the nation; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The DuPage County Children's Advocacy Center is | ||||||
17 | observing its 20th
anniversary of fulfilling a vital service to | ||||||
18 | the children and families of DuPage County, Illinois;
the | ||||||
19 | Center is a nationally recognized model for other | ||||||
20 | jurisdictions; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Currently, Illinois has 20 plus centers |

1 | addressing the special needs of young victims of abuse; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The DuPage County Children's Advocacy Center is | ||||||
3 | comprised of criminal investigators, case managers, and | ||||||
4 | Department of Children and Family Services child protection | ||||||
5 | investigators; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The DuPage County Children's Advocacy Center is | ||||||
7 | committed and shall remain committed to minimizing the trauma | ||||||
8 | experienced by the child victim of sexual abuse or serious | ||||||
9 | physical abuse during the investigation; to seeking justice | ||||||
10 | from those responsible for the commission of sexual abuse or | ||||||
11 | serious physical abuse; to providing support and facilitating | ||||||
12 | treatment to the child victim and the non-offending caregivers; | ||||||
13 | and to promoting prevention of child victimization through | ||||||
14 | community education; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
16 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | proclaim the week of April 22 through April 28, 2007 as | ||||||
18 | National Victims' Rights Week in the State of Illinois and | ||||||
19 | honor the DuPage County Children's Advocacy Center and those | ||||||
20 | programs across the State of Illinois working to reduce and | ||||||
21 | ultimately eliminate sexual abuse and serious physical abuse of | ||||||
22 | children; and be it further

1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
2 | presented to the DuPage County Children's Advocacy Center as a | ||||||
3 | symbol of our respect.
