| WHEREAS, Sauk Village was incorporated on March 12, 1957 |

| encompassing 55 homes located near Sauk Trail and Illinois 394; |
4 |
| and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Homes in 1958 sold for approximately $13,000 with |
6 |
| many World War II
veterans taking advantage of Veterans |
7 |
| Administration backed mortgages; today homes range from |
8 |
| $60,000 - $350,000 in price; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Today Sauk Village has 11,000 residents, |
10 |
| approximately 3,500
housing units, and encompasses |
11 |
| approximately 6 square miles; it is located both in Cook and |
12 |
| Will Counties; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, The Village has had five Mayors in its history: |
14 |
| Thomas Nichols, 1957-1965; Roger Theisen, 1965-1977; Edward |
15 |
| Paesel, 1977-1989; Mark Collins, 1989-1997; and Roger Peckham, |
16 |
| 1997-present; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Sauk Village is now home to one of the largest |
18 |
| concentrations of
distribution and warehousing in the Chicago |
19 |
| metropolitan region; thousands of employees are employed at |
20 |
| firms such as Roadway
Express, ABF Distribution, Pacesetter |
21 |
| Steel, Warehouse Specialists, Inc., Minority Auto |

|

| WHEREAS, In commemoration of the 50th anniversary, Sauk |
4 |
| Village will construct a
new municipal complex including a new |
5 |
| senior citizen center, build and
dedicate a community Veterans |
6 |
| Memorial, expand and renovate the community center for young |
7 |
| people, and expand and renovate space for the police and |
8 |
| Emergency Services Agency; and |
9 |
| WHEREAS, Thousands of families have lived in Sauk Village; |
10 |
| their children attend Bloom and Bloom Trait High Schools and |
11 |
| Community Consolidated School District #168 schools; they have |
12 |
| used the Nancy McConathy Public Library and its new facility |
13 |
| that opened in 2006; and families have attended church services |
14 |
| at the numerous churches in the community; therefore, be it
|
15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
16 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
17 |
| congratulate the citizens of Sauk Village as they celebrate the |
18 |
| fiftieth anniversary of their community; and be it further
|
19 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 |
| presented to Edward Paesel, Chairman of the Sauk Village |
21 |
| Countdown to 50 Committee, and Roger Peckham, Mayor of Sauk |
22 |
| Village, as a symbol of our esteem.
