HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Large numbers of Indian Americans are proud and honored to welcome Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy as he visits the great city of Chicago on May 6, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was elected to the office of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, a southern state in India and has been the people's leader, a distinguished statesman, and a great visionary serving the people of the state over 25 years as an elected official; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is the beloved Chief Minister of the State of Andhra Pradesh, India and is widely recognized as an extraordinary leader who helped bring monumental socioeconomic change to the State of Andhra Pradesh in India; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has been recognized for his leadership in empowering the farmers by accentuating policies significant to agricultural and farming communities and by providing free electricity power and other governmental incentives that seek to significantly enhance agriculture; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's leadership for empowering farming communities was so remarkably inspiring that President Bush paid a visit to the farming community in Andhra Pradesh in March 2006; President Bush applauded Dr. Y. S. Reddy for his strong commitment to agriculture and welfare of the farmers; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy received national accolades for his innovative initiatives and programs in ensuring a balanced growth of the state encompassing both urban and rural areas; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is distinguished for his exemplary devotion to uplifting the downtrodden and neglected segments of the society; as a leader, Dr. Y.S.R. Reddy championed tirelessly to secure the rights of the poor, the disenfranchised, and the underprivileged; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is known as a champion of the masses with his intense debates that sought to lend voice to the voiceless masses, forcing the government to step up and adopt people-centric programs and policies; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in the most blistering hot summer, led an unprecedented 1400 km "walk" on foot to interact with backward areas of the state and understand the ground realities of living conditions of the people there; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy enthusiastically committed significant resources to launch government programs that seek to promote education, provide health care, create employment, allocate housing to the poor, build transportation infrastructure, provide social security and support women's welfare projects, steering toward excellence in sports and nurturing telugu cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is a sterling example of inspiring younger generations of corporate leaders to usher industrial growth and undertake more developmental projects in the state and make it an investor-friendly state, thus striving to turn Hyderabad City in Andhra Pradesh into the No. 1 global destination for entrepreneurs and investors; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy demands his administration be deeply committed to their job and shows disdain to hype and extravaganza in his presentation and communicating with the people; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is an outstanding public leader exemplifying the most noble ideals of public service; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we welcome Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to this great State and look forward to fostering a partnership and cooperation between the State of Illinois, the USA, and State of Andhra Pradesh, India; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy be presented to Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
