HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, On Saturday, April 28, 2007, Advocate Christ 
3
Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital, Oak Lawn, will be 
4
hosting the Salute 2007 Gala at the Hilton Chicago Hotel at 
5
which Mark Slaughter, M.D. will be honored by the Advocate 
6
Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital as a 2007 
7
Outstanding Physician Leader for his exceptional 
8
professionalism and contributions in his medical field; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Mark S. Slaughter, M.D. graduated from Indiana 
10
University School of Medicine and completed his residency in 
11
General Surgery at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern 
12
University at Northwestern Memorial Hospital; he completed a 
13
fellowship in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the 
14
University of Minnesota Fairview University Medical Center in 
15
Minneapolis, Minnesota; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Dr. Slaughter has held academic positions at the 
17
University of Illinois and has had research experience at 
18
Indiana University, the University of Minnesota, and the 
19
Cardiac Surgery Clinical Research Center, Inc.; and
 

20
    WHEREAS,
Dr. Slaughter holds many honors, including two 
21
designations as "Top Doctor in Chicago" (Thoracic Surgery) in 
22
2002 and 2003; Alley-Sheridan Scholar, Thoracic Surgery

Foundation, Understanding the New World of Health Care, and 
2
several earned at Northwestern University, including the 
3
Medical School Outstanding Resident Teacher award, the Harold 
4
L. Method, M.D. Award, the Outstanding Surgical Resident,  and 
5
the Outstanding Surgical Resident Teacher of the Year; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Dr. Slaughter is a member of many professional 
7
societies including the American College of Chest Physicians 
8
(Fellow), the American College of Surgeons (Fellow), the 
9
American Society of Transplant Physicians, the Cardiac Surgery 
10
Society of Chicago, the Heart Failure Society of America,  and 
11
the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation; 
12
and
 
13
    WHEREAS,

Dr. Slaughter has also served on many government 
14
agency advisory committees, including the Health and Human 
15
Services Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee; he has served as 
16
the Physician Reviewer for Iowa Foundation for Quality 
17
Healthcare (Medicare), and serves on several international

18
committees including the International Scientific Committee 
19
World Artificial-Organ, Immunology,
and Transplantation 
20
Society; the Advisory Board for the International Academy of 
21
Cardiology; the Scientific Advisory Boards for the 8th World 
22
Congress on Heart Failure, the 3rd World Congress on Heart 
23
Disease and the 5th International Congress of CAD;

Dr. 
24
Slaughter has been widely published and has spoken at numerous

conferences; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
4
congratulate Mark Slaughter, M.D., on being honored by the 
5
Advocate Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital for 
6
his exceptional professionalism and contributions in his 
7
medical field; and be it further

 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to Mark Slaughter, M.D.,  as a symbol of our respect.
