2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Geraldine "Travis" Hooten | ||||||
4 | on her retirement from the City of Chicago Department of Human | ||||||
5 | Services; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Geraldine Hooten was born in Greenwood, | ||||||
7 | Mississippi on April 16, 1937; her parents were Ellis Travis, | ||||||
8 | Sr. and Elnora Wilson Travis; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, She moved to Chicago in 1940; she married Wilbert | ||||||
10 | Hooten, Sr., on June 5, 1954 and together they had five | ||||||
11 | children, Denise, Wilbert, Jr., Derrel, Avis, and Michael; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Geraldine Hooten began working with the City of | ||||||
13 | Chicago Department of Human Services in 1965; in 1988 she | ||||||
14 | received a Certificate of National Merit from the National | ||||||
15 | Recognition Program of the United States Department of Housing | ||||||
16 | and Urban Development; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Geraldine Hooten has resided at the Pioneer | ||||||
18 | Village Phase IV apartments for 19 years; she is been an active | ||||||
19 | member of South Park Baptist Church since 1972; she is a member | ||||||
20 | of the Walter Thornton Memorial Auxiliary; she is an honorary | ||||||
21 | member of Usher Board No. 2; and she volunteered to assist with |

1 | the Katrina Relief Project hosted by her church; Geraldine | ||||||
2 | loves cooking for her church, her family, and her friends; and | ||||||
3 | she loves the Lord and is a blessing to those she meets; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Geraldine Hooten retired from the City of Chicago | ||||||
5 | Department of Human Services in 2003 after 38 years of service; | ||||||
6 | she served on the Chicago Community on Urban Development "War | ||||||
7 | on Poverty Program"; she served the Department of Human | ||||||
8 | Services as Community Representative Recruiter, a Urban Life | ||||||
9 | Interviewer, and an Emergency Services Worker/Crisis | ||||||
10 | Intervention; she also was a dispatcher working with the | ||||||
11 | sanitation, fire, and police Departments; and she worked as a | ||||||
12 | Social Service Assistant providing counseling and referral | ||||||
13 | services for emergencies; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | congratulate Geraldine "Travis" Hooten on her retirement from | ||||||
17 | the City of Chicago Department of Human Services and wish her | ||||||
18 | continued good fortune in her future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to Geraldine Hooten as a symbol of our respect.
