HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Herbert
4 Bias, Sr. of Chicago, who passed away on March 6, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Herbert Bias, Sr. was born on September 30, 1939
6 in Harriston, Mississippi; he relocated to Chicago in 1962; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He and his wife, Ann, opened their first McDonalds
8 Restaurant in 1984; together, they went on to operate McDonalds
9 on 87th and Wabash, 65th and Stony Island, 115th and St.
10 Lawrence, and 95th and Jeffrey streets on Chicago's southside;
11 Mr. Bias was an active member of the Black McDonalds Owners
12 Association and involved with community and social concerns;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, In 2002 Mr. Bias was selected to be a torch bearer
15 at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Herbert Bias Sr. is survived by his wife, Ann; his
17 son, Herbert Bias, Jr.; his daughter, Joy Johnson (the past
18 president of the NBA Wives Behind the Bench; son-in-law and
19 former NBA basketball player Eddie Johnson, who played for the
20 Seattle Supersonics, Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Hornets,
21 Indiana Pacers, and Houston Rockets; his three grandchildren;

1 his brother, his two sisters; his six sisters-in-law; his six
2 brothers-in-law; and many other relatives and friends;
3 therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
7 Herbert Bias, Sr. and extend our condolences at this time; and
8 be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Herbert Bias, Sr. as a symbol of our
11 sympathy.
