HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate the City of Elmhurst on
4 the 50th anniversary of the Elmhurst Historical Museum, January
5 13, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Elmhurst Historical Museum is operated by the
7 City of Elmhurst, and serves as the community's memory by
8 acquiring, preserving, and interpreting original materials
9 related to the history of Elmhurst from the settlement period
10 to the present; and
 
11     WHEREAS, The Elmhurst Historical Museum was founded in
12 1957, and is located in a historically significant structure,
13 the former home of Henry L. Glos, first Village President, and
14 his wife, Lucy; the museum fills an essential role in the life
15 of the community, revealing the quality of life in years past
16 and providing a basis on which pride in Elmhurst will grow and
17 endure; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The Museum fulfills its mission by acquiring and
19 caring for locally significant artifacts, records and
20 documents, photographs, audio-visual materials, and
21 publications; presenting historical concepts and museum
22 collections to the public through exhibits, educational

1 programs, tours and publications; supporting research related
2 to local history and Museum collections; and offering cultural
3 and leisure opportunities related to community history and
4 heritage; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Services at the Museum include a permanent
6 collection of historical artifacts numbering 7,000; a
7 permanent collection of historic photographic images numbering
8 10,000; more than 300 linear feet of personal, business, and
9 City records; a library of more than 500 books; and microfilm
10 copies of Elmhurst newspapers, censuses, and Sanborn Fire
11 Insurance maps; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The Museum's exhibits include a permanent exhibit
13 examining Elmhurst as a model of suburbanization, temporary
14 exhibits developed from the museum collection, and travelling
15 exhibits from outside sources; educational programs are
16 offered to adults, families, schools, and special audiences
17 that include, but are not limited to, gallery tours, craft
18 demonstrations, classroom visits, walking tours of Elmhurst
19 neighborhoods, holiday programs, lectures, and symposia;
20 therefore, be it
 
21     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23 congratulate the City of Elmhurst on the 50th anniversary of

1 the Elmhurst Historical Museum; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the City of Elmhurst and the Elmhurst Historical
4 Museum.
