1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives and the | ||||||
3 | people of the State of Illinois have a strong interest in the | ||||||
4 | health, welfare, and safety of the United States of America and | ||||||
5 | all of its people; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The United States of America has deployed many | ||||||
7 | thousands of brave men and women to Iraq, troops who have been | ||||||
8 | defending the cause of liberty and freedom with their lives; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, It is the will of the vast majority of the people | ||||||
11 | of the United States of America that our county begin to seek | ||||||
12 | an exit strategy from this conflict and to bring our troops | ||||||
13 | home; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, President George W. Bush announced on January 10, | ||||||
15 | 2007, the decision to deploy more than 20,000 additional United | ||||||
16 | States combat troops to Iraq; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives passed | ||||||
18 | a Resolution known as H. Con. Res. 63 that reads as follows: | ||||||
19 | Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate | ||||||
20 | concurring), That-- | ||||||
21 | (1) Congress and the American people will continue to |

1 | support and protect the members of the United States Armed | ||||||
2 | Forces who are serving or have served bravely and honorably | ||||||
3 | in Iraq; and | ||||||
4 | (2) Congress disapproves of the decision of President | ||||||
5 | George W. Bush announced on January 10, 2007, to deploy | ||||||
6 | more than 20,000 additional United States combat troops to | ||||||
7 | Iraq; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The war and continued occupation have resulted in | ||||||
9 | the devastation of Iraq's physical and social infrastructure | ||||||
10 | and led to widespread and continuous resistance to U.S. | ||||||
11 | occupation that threatens the lives of Iraqi civilians and the | ||||||
12 | men and women who compose the ranks of U.S. and other occupying | ||||||
13 | forces; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The presence of United States forces in Iraq has | ||||||
15 | inflamed anti-American passions in the Muslim world and | ||||||
16 | increased the terrorist threat to United States citizens, both | ||||||
17 | at home and abroad; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
19 | Representatives believe that it is time to bring our troops | ||||||
20 | home, rather than to add further to our American losses in a | ||||||
21 | failed and unnecessary conflict; therefore, be it
| ||||||
22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

1 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
2 | the Illinois House of Representatives supports and wishes to | ||||||
3 | help protect the members of the United States Armed Forces who | ||||||
4 | are serving or who have served bravely and honorably in Iraq; | ||||||
5 | and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois House of Representatives, as a | ||||||
7 | body, disapproves the decision of President George W. Bush | ||||||
8 | announced on January 10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000 | ||||||
9 | additional combat troops to
Iraq
; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That on behalf of the citizens of Illinois, we | ||||||
11 | urge the United States government to immediately commence an | ||||||
12 | orderly and rapid withdrawal of United States military | ||||||
13 | personnel from Iraq; and be it further
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent | ||||||
15 | to President George W. Bush and to each member of the Illinois | ||||||
16 | congressional delegation.
