| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The organization, Pretzel City USA, was founded in |
| 3 |
| 1998 with the express mission to support the city of Freeport; |
| 4 |
| the organization was influential in the Freeport City Council's |
| 5 |
| decision to adopt "Pretzel City U.S.A." as the city's official |
| 6 |
| nickname; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The pretzel became the trademark for Freeport when |
| 8 |
| the Billerbeck Baker, which was established in 1869, flooded |
| 9 |
| Freeport with pretzels; Freeport High School's athletic teams |
| 10 |
| adopted the name "Pretzels" and are now on ESPN's Hall of Fame |
| 11 |
| list of unusual mascots; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Pretzel City USA capitalized on Freeport's rich |
| 13 |
| history and relationship with the pretzel; it brought attention |
| 14 |
| and pride to Freeport with its sponsorship of the Pretzel |
| 15 |
| Festival, featured on the nationally and internationally |
| 16 |
| watched Food Network cable channel; therefore, be it
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 |
| recognize Pretzel City USA for bringing recognition to the City |
| 20 |
| of Freeport; and be it further
