2 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | ||||||
3 | State of Illinois wish to honor G. Kent Barnheiser on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of his retirement from the Alzheimer's
| ||||||
5 | Association-Greater Illinois Chapter after serving the Greater | ||||||
6 | Illinois Chapter from September 1994 to March 2007; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Kent retires as President and CEO of the | ||||||
8 | Alzheimer's Association-Greater Illinois Chapter in March | ||||||
9 | 2007, after more than 12 years of leadership for the Chapter | ||||||
10 | and after more than 21 years as a member of the Alzheimer's | ||||||
11 | Association family; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Kent came to the chapter in September 1994, from | ||||||
13 | having worked the previous nine years as the first executive | ||||||
14 | director for the Alzheimer's Association-Orange County Chapter | ||||||
15 | in southern California and then as vice president of chapter | ||||||
16 | services at the Alzheimer's Association National Office in | ||||||
17 | Chicago, where he started the division; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, During his tenure, the Greater Illinois Chapter | ||||||
19 | service area expanded from several counties in the metropolitan | ||||||
20 | Chicago area to 68 of the 102 counties in Illinois; the Chapter | ||||||
21 | has offices in Bloomington, Carterville, Chicago, Joliet, | ||||||
22 | Rockford, Skokie, and Springfield with staff now serving the |

1 | more than half million citizens of Illinois affected by | ||||||
2 | Alzheimer's who are in the chapter area, including 210,000 | ||||||
3 | people with Alzheimer's disease, plus family members and | ||||||
4 | caregivers; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Kent's professional interest in Alzheimer's | ||||||
6 | disease and the Alzheimer's Association grew out a personal | ||||||
7 | connection with the disease, because both of his parents had | ||||||
8 | Alzheimer's disease; and

9 | WHEREAS, Prior to his work with the Alzheimer's | ||||||
10 | Association, Kent taught middle school in Ohio and worked for | ||||||
11 | the Dayton, Ohio, YMCA as its executive director; he is a | ||||||
12 | graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a Bachelor's | ||||||
13 | degree in education; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | congratulate G. Kent Barnheiser on the occasion of his | ||||||
17 | retirement from the Alzheimer's Association-Greater Illinois | ||||||
18 | Chapter and thank him for his tremendous contribution to | ||||||
19 | helping the over 210,000 Illinoisans and their caregivers as | ||||||
20 | they live with the effects of Alzheimer's disease and other | ||||||
21 | related dementias; and be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
