1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, On March 5, 2007, James P. Ghiglieri II will be | ||||||
3 | installed as Chairman of the Independent Community Bankers of | ||||||
4 | America, the nation's largest association of community banks, | ||||||
5 | representing over 5,000 members in over 18,000 locations, and | ||||||
6 | employing over 260,000 people; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, In his role as Chairman Mr. Ghiglieri will be the | ||||||
8 | top spokesman for the nation's community banks, fighting for | ||||||
9 | fair competition, diversification of financial resources, and | ||||||
10 | the viability of American communities; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, In the year 1919, a young Italian immigrant named | ||||||
12 | Bernard (Barney) Ghiglieri, at the age of 24 established a | ||||||
13 | community bank in the coal mining town of Toluca, Illinois in | ||||||
14 | order to provide loans to the working class families of Toluca, | ||||||
15 | pooling their savings in order to make loans for them to | ||||||
16 | establish homes, raise families and start businesses, | ||||||
17 | obtaining credit based not just on their ability to pay, but | ||||||
18 | also on their character; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, "Barney" Ghiglieri established his own roots in | ||||||
20 | the small and friendly town, raising his own family, including | ||||||
21 | a son, James I, who, as a young adult, worked at the bank, | ||||||
22 | eventually becoming its president; and

1 | WHEREAS, Jim Ghiglieri I continued his father's tradition | ||||||
2 | of deep involvement in the community and all of its civic | ||||||
3 | activities; he rose to become president of Illinois' only bank | ||||||
4 | trade association, fighting for the continued viability of | ||||||
5 | Illinois' community banks and all they represented to small | ||||||
6 | town economic life; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Jim Ghiglieri I and his wife Dorothy "Dot" raised | ||||||
8 | their own family in Toluca, including two daughters, Cathy and | ||||||
9 | Carol, and a son named Jim; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Jim Ghiglieri II rose to become the president of | ||||||
11 | Toluca's only bank, like his father and grandfather before him; | ||||||
12 | in the tradition of his father, he gave to his profession by | ||||||
13 | volunteering his time serving in the leadership of the | ||||||
14 | Community Bankers Association of Illinois, the largest banking | ||||||
15 | association in Illinois, and the only Illinois banking
| ||||||
16 | association which exclusively represents Illinois' community | ||||||
17 | banks; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Jim Ghiglieri II became the Chairman of the | ||||||
19 | Community Bankers Association of Illinois, serving his | ||||||
20 | profession while continuing his deep involvement with his | ||||||
21 | community and his family, which consists of his wife, Mary Kay, | ||||||
22 | his sons Matthew and James III, and his daughter, Kristin; and

1 | WHEREAS, All of Jim's family, co-workers, neighbors, and | ||||||
2 | peers consider Jim Ghiglieri II an outstanding banker, citizen, | ||||||
3 | professional, and father who is highly deserving of this honor; | ||||||
4 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
7 | warmly congratulate James P. Ghiglieri on his appointment as | ||||||
8 | Chairman of the Independent Community Bankers of America, and | ||||||
9 | his continued commitment to his profession; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to James P. Ghiglieri II, as a symbol of our esteem.
