HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Alex Marx on the occasion of his retirement after 36 years of service to the residents of the Mundelein Parks and Recreation District; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Alex Marx, the Mundelein Parks and Recreation District has grown from a 14-acre, one building district into a thriving park district with 33 sites and more than 725 acres of land; and

WHEREAS, He has helped the district develop an 18-hole top-rated golf course; community and neighborhood parks; a historical preservation museum; cooperative school and park facilities and land; child care and preschool facilities; senior, community and fitness centers; a dance studio; an indoor pool; a boat and lakefront facility; a skate park; an aquatic spray park; sports fields; tennis and basketball courts; a 9-hole disc golf course; and a 7-acre outdoor aquatic center; and

WHEREAS, Alex Marx, Director of the Mundelein Parks and Recreation District, is a spirited advocate of board member education and inspires his board members to participate on Illinois Association of Park Districts' (IAPD) boards and committees; he is a founding member of the Lake County and Mundelein After School Coalitions and continues to work toward recreational opportunities for the youth in the area; and

WHEREAS, Alex Marx has demonstrated his commitment to the community as a member of the Mundelein Community Day Commission, Mundelein-Vernon Hills Rotary Club, Mundelein Historical Society, Mundelein Economic Development Committee, American Legion, and Project C.A.P.E. (Creating a Positive Environment); and

WHEREAS, Alex Marx was presented with the IAPD's "Honored Professional" award at the organization's annual conference in January 2006 held in Chicago; this award recognizes professionals in the field of parks and recreation who have demonstrated remarkable talents in encouraging board members to excel as citizen advocates in advancing the field of parks and recreation, who believe in the IAPD mission and have a history of supporting its endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Alex Marx and his wife, Georgeanne, have been married for over 39 years and have four daughters and three grandchildren; he is also a founding member of the New Greek Orthodox Church (Ascension) where he serves as Stewardship chairperson and on the Board of Directors; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Alex Marx on the occasion of his retirement after over 36 years of service to the residents of the Mundelein Parks and Recreation District; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to him as an expression of our deep gratitude and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
