| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout our history, America has welcomed |
3 |
| millions of Irish immigrants to its shores, and those proud |
4 |
| people arrived seeking a better life for themselves, their |
5 |
| families, and future generations; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Many courageous individuals came during the |
7 |
| terrible years of Ireland's Great Famine in the middle of the |
8 |
| nineteenth century, and their road to prosperity was not easy; |
9 |
| many faced significant obstacles, including discrimination and |
10 |
| poverty; despite these challenges, Irish Americans have risen |
11 |
| to success in every sector of our society; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Many of the Irish immigrants migrated to Illinois |
13 |
| and have played major roles in our State's commerce, industry, |
14 |
| arts and sciences, and all levels of public and governmental |
15 |
| service; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
17 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
18 |
| March of 2007 is designated as Irish-American Heritage Month, |
19 |
| and all Illinoisans are urged to observe this month by learning |
20 |
| about and commemorating the contributions of Irish Americans to |
21 |
| our nation, our State, and our local communities; and be it |
22 |
