    Amends the School Code. Provides that a school district shall prohibit a high school student from participating in extracurricular athletics while in high school if he or she has a semester grade point average of less than a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2 preceding semesters in any of grades 9 through 12. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
5 10-20.46 and 34-18.37 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/10-20.46 new)
7     Sec. 10-20.46. Minimum grade point average;
8 extracurricular athletics. A school district shall prohibit a
9 high school student from participating in extracurricular
10 athletics while in high school if he or she has a semester
11 grade point average of less than a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its
12 equivalent as determined by the school district) for the 2
13 preceding semesters in any of grades 9 through 12.

1     Section 90. The State Mandates Act is amended by adding
2 Section 8.32 as follows:
 
3     (30 ILCS 805/8.32 new)
4     Sec. 8.32. Exempt mandate. Notwithstanding Sections 6 and 8
5 of this Act, no reimbursement by the State is required for the
6 implementation of any mandate created by this amendatory Act of
7 the 95th General Assembly.
