Amends the Township Code. Provides that the city council of any coterminous city may authorize the township supervisor to preside over portions of city council meetings when the city council is exercising powers that would ordinarily be exercised by the township board. Provides that, if the township supervisor is authorized to preside over city council meetings, then the township supervisor has one vote and the mayor has no vote. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning local government.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Township Code is amended by adding Section |
5 |
| 15-70 as follows: |

| (60 ILCS 1/15-70 new) |

| Sec. 15-70. City council meetings; township business. The |
8 |
| city council of any coterminous city may, by the affirmative |
9 |
| vote of three-fourths of its members, authorize the township |
10 |
| supervisor to preside over portions of city council meetings |
11 |
| when the city council is exercising powers that would |
12 |
| ordinarily be exercised by the township board in a township not |
13 |
| organized under this Article. If the city council authorizes |
14 |
| the township supervisor to preside, then the supervisor has one |
15 |
| vote and the mayor has no vote.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
17 |
| becoming law.
