2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3518 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | "Section 5. The Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986 is | ||||||
5 | amended by adding Section 214.5 as follows: | ||||||
6 | (750 ILCS 60/214.5 new)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 214.5. Discrimination against protected person. It is | ||||||
8 | unlawful to discriminate against a person because of his or her | ||||||
9 | order of protection status in connection with employment, real | ||||||
10 | estate transactions, access to financial credit, or the | ||||||
11 | availability of public accommodations. When used in this | ||||||
12 | Section, the term "order of protection status" means a person's | ||||||
13 | status as being protected or previously protected under an | ||||||
14 | order of protection issued pursuant to this Act or an order of | ||||||
15 | protection issued by a court of another state. Any person or | ||||||
16 | entity that violates the provisions of this Section may be held |

1 | liable to the person affected in an action brought in a court | ||||||
2 | of competent jurisdiction for such legal or equitable relief as | ||||||
3 | may be appropriate to effectuate the purposes of this Act.

4 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January | ||||||
5 | 1, 2008.".
