1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1919

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1919 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | "Section 5. The Local Governmental Employees Political | ||||||
5 | Rights Act is amended by changing Section 12 as follows: | ||||||
6 | (50 ILCS 135/12) | ||||||
7 | Sec. 12. Elective and appointed office. | ||||||
8 | (a) A member of any fire department or fire protection | ||||||
9 | district may: | ||||||
10 | (1) be a candidate for elective public office and serve | ||||||
11 | in that public office if elected; | ||||||
12 | (2) be appointed to any public office and serve in that | ||||||
13 | public office if appointed; and | ||||||
14 | (3) as long as the member is not in uniform and not on | ||||||
15 | duty, solicit votes and campaign funds and challenge voters |

| |||||||
1 | for the public office for which the member is a candidate.
| ||||||
2 | (b) A firefighter who is elected to the Illinois General | ||||||
3 | Assembly shall, upon written application to the employer, be | ||||||
4 | granted a leave of absence without compensation during his or | ||||||
5 | her term of office.
