Amends the Vital Records Act. Provides that if a person requests a certified copy of a birth or death certificate and that certificate contains an error through no fault of the person requesting the certificate, a new certified copy of the certificate must be issued to the individual for no additional cost. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning public health.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Vital Records Act is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 24.2 as follows: |

| (410 ILCS 535/24.2 new) |

| Sec. 24.2. Errors in issued certificates. If a person |
8 |
| requests and is issued a certified copy of a birth or death |
9 |
| certificate and that certificate contains an error through no |
10 |
| fault of the person requesting the certificate, a new certified |
11 |
| copy of the certificate must be issued to the individual for no |
12 |
| additional cost.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
14 |
| becoming law.
