SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Illegally Logged Wood Act. Defines "illegally logged wood". Prohibits the importation of illegally logged wood into the State and the sale of illegally logged wood in the State. Provides that violation of the Act is a petty offense with a fine of $1,000.

1     AN ACT concerning commerce.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 Illegally Logged Wood Act.
 
6     Section 5. Prohibition; penalties.
7     (a) For purposes of this Section, "illegally logged wood"
8 means whole logs or timber harvested, transported, bought, or
9 sold in violation of national laws. "Illegally logged wood"
10 includes any raw wood product derived from whole logs or timber
11 harvested, transported, bought, or sold in violation of
12 national laws.
13     (b) No person may import illegally logged wood into this
14 State for purposes of retail sale.
15     (c) Illegally logged wood may not be sold or dispensed in
16 this State.
17     (d) A person who knowingly violates this Section is guilty
18 of a petty offense and shall be fined $1,000. Each day that a
19 violation occurs is a separate offense.
