Amends the Illinois Highway Code. Provides that the Department of Transportation shall select a capital improvement project related to pedestrian or vehicular facilities as a pilot project in which rubberized asphalt shall be used in place of conventional asphalt. Sets requirements for the project. Provides that the Department shall select the project within 6 months, and the project must be completed within 12 months.

| AN ACT concerning transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Highway Code is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 4-105 as follows: |
6 |
| (605 ILCS 5/4-105 new) |

| Sec. 4-105. Rubberized asphalt study. The Department shall |
8 |
| select a capital improvement project related to roads, parking |
9 |
| lots, sidewalks, biking or walking paths, or other pedestrian |
10 |
| or vehicular facilities, as a pilot project in which rubberized |
11 |
| asphalt shall be used in place of conventional asphalt. The |
12 |
| project shall feature at least 2,000 square feet of rubberized |
13 |
| asphalt and a similarly sized patch of conventional asphalt, to |
14 |
| enable comparisons. The Department shall select the project |
15 |
| within 6 months of the effective date of this amendatory Act of |
16 |
| the 95th General Assembly, and the project must be completed |
17 |
| within 12 months of the effective date of this amendatory Act |
18 |
| of the 95th General Assembly.
