Amends the Illinois Local Library Act. Makes the minimum signature requirement for a nominating petition for the office of library board trustee 2% of the number of votes cast at the last election for library trustee or 25, whichever is less (now, 50).

| AN ACT concerning local government.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Local Library Act is amended by |
5 |
| changing Section 4-3.3 as follows:
|

| (75 ILCS 5/4-3.3) (from Ch. 81, par. 4-3.3)
|

| Sec. 4-3.3. Nominations for the position of library trustee |
8 |
| including
the first board of library trustees shall be by |
9 |
| petition, signed by
at least 50 legal voters residing in the |
10 |
| incorporated town or village (except
a village under the |
11 |
| commission form of government) or township equal in number to |
12 |
| at least 2% of the number of votes cast at the most recent |
13 |
| election for library trustee or 25, whichever is less, and |
14 |
| filed
with the clerk of such incorporated
town, village, or |
15 |
| township within the time prescribed by the general election
|
16 |
| law. Such clerk shall certify the candidates for library |
17 |
| trustees to the
proper election authorities who shall conduct |
18 |
| the election in accordance
with the general election law. All |
19 |
| candidates must be residents of the
incorporated town, village |
20 |
| or township involved. The ballots shall not
designate any |
21 |
| political party, platform or political principle.
