Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Counties Code. Provides that if the coroner or medical examiner finds that the cause of death is due to homicidal means, the coroner shall send blood, tissue, and saliva specimens from the decedent to the State Police for inclusion in the State DNA central repository.

Senate Floor Amendment No. 1
Provides that coroners and medical examiners (instead of coroners only) are required to provide blood and buccal specimens (instead of blood, tissue, and saliva specimens) to the Department of State Police. Provides that the coroner or medical examiner may submit tissue if no uncontaminated blood or buccal sample can be obtained. Provides that the specimens shall be dried. Provides that these requirements are in addition to any other findings, specimens, or information that the coroner or medical examiner is required to provide during the conduct of a criminal investigation.
