| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate learned with |
3 |
| sadness of the passing of Martin Arthur Salmon of Clarendon |
4 |
| Hills on December 5, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Salmon was born on June 28, 1922, in Detroit, |
6 |
| Michigan; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Salmon received a bachelor's degree in civil |
8 |
| engineering and a doctorate in applied mechanics from the |
9 |
| Illinois Institute of Technology; he worked as an engineer, |
10 |
| specializing in nuclear power plant design, for IIT Research |
11 |
| Institute and Sargent and Lundy; he possessed a piercing |
12 |
| intellect and an uncanny aptitude for using complex mathematics |
13 |
| to solve formidable engineering problems; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, An avid golfer, Mr. Salmon was often seen on the |
15 |
| course in all weather, working on his short game with |
16 |
| determination and hope; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Martin Salmon was devoted to his family, and he |
18 |
| will be remembered for his wry sense of humor and gentle but |
19 |
| concise advice; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Martin Arthur Salmon has been |
21 |
| deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife |
22 |
| of 59 years, Marion (nee Baker); his daughter Betsy (Peter) |
23 |
| Miller; his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Greg) Laurence, Martin |
24 |
| A. (Katie) Miller, Susan Miller, and Carolyn Miller; his great |
25 |
| granddaughter, Gretchen Laurence; a sister, Joan Salmon |
26 |
| Hallett: a brother-in-law, Hillier L. Baker; and nieces and |
27 |
| nephews; therefore, be it
