| WHEREAS,
The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Gary Bair of Casa Grande, Arizona, who |
4 |
| passed away on December 25, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Gary L. Bair was born May 11, 1946, in Granite |
6 |
| City to Ervin M. "Cubby" and Sarah Helen (Stearns) Bair; he |
7 |
| married Dorothy Ann "Dot" Schaefer on August 6, 1966, at the |
8 |
| First United Methodist Church in Trenton; and |
9 |
| WHEREAS, Gary Bair, a former Edwardsville resident, taught |
10 |
| at the Edwardsville Elementary School for 34 years, retiring in |
11 |
| May of 2005; he graduated from Wesclin High School in 1964 and |
12 |
| earned a Bachelor of science degree and a Master's degree in |
13 |
| elementary education from Southern Illinois University in |
14 |
| Edwardsville; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Gary Bair was a United States Army veteran, |
16 |
| serving in Vietnam with "Jayhawks" Company "A", 9th Aviation |
17 |
| Battalion, 9th Infantry Division as a helicopter crew chief and |
18 |
| gunner; he was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church |
19 |
| in Edwardsville, the Phoenix American Legion Post 100, the |
20 |
| Edwardsville American Legion, the Edwardsville Lions Club, and |
21 |
| the National Education Association, Illinois Education |
22 |
| Association, and the Edwardsville Education Association; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, Gary Bair began a career as a golf coach by first |
24 |
| working as a volunteer assistant under coach Dennis Erlich; he |
25 |
| then became the girls golf coach, leading them to many State |
26 |
| tournaments, and eventually their unbeaten season and first |
27 |
| State championship in 2004; after his retirement he enjoyed |
28 |
| playing golf as a hobby and established a youth golf program in |
29 |
| Casa Grande; and
|
30 |
| WHEREAS, Gary Bair is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his |
