| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Mary Shirley Baumann of |
4 |
| Naperville on Thursday, September 28, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on October |
6 |
| 18, 1928, to Gustave and Mary Flannery Berglund; she attended |
7 |
| Beverly Hills High School in California; she graduated from |
8 |
| Ursuline Academy in St. Louis and then attended Washington |
9 |
| University on a part-time basis; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, She was united in marriage to Robert W. Baumann in |
11 |
| 1955 at Notre Dame in the Log Chapel; they moved to the Chicago |
12 |
| area in 1960, settling in Naperville in 1965, where she was |
13 |
| active in the Naperville Woman's Club for nearly 40 years; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Baumann was instrumental behind the scenes in |
15 |
| the development and support of Naperville Settlement and the |
16 |
| Naperville Art League; she was also an active member of the |
17 |
| Naperville Heritage Society for many years; she was a past |
18 |
| president of the Naperville Woman's Club and was co-chairman of |
19 |
| the Woman's Club Art Fair for many years, and today it is the |
20 |
| longest-continuously running art fair in Illinois; she worked |
21 |
| to keep the Art Fair from becoming a craft fair and assembled a |
22 |
| jury of judges who gave awards to local artists; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, Shirley and her late husband had the shared |
24 |
| priority of educating their children; all eight received |
25 |
| college degrees, and many pursued advanced degrees; Mrs. |
26 |
| Baumann graduated from the Institute for Management at |
27 |
| Benedictine University in 1982; and
|
28 |
| WHEREAS, Her enduring Catholic faith was an integral part |
29 |
| of her life and an example to her family; she was a Sts. Peter |
30 |
| and Paul parishioner; and
