| WHEREAS, Richard A. "Steve" Stevenson passed away on |
3 |
| October 26, 2006; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Steve was born on February 28, 1923, in Anaheim, |
5 |
| California, to Earl and Hazel (Crooks) Stevenson; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, His family moved from Anaheim to Missouri, where |
7 |
| they bought a dairy farm; he and his brother, Del, worked many |
8 |
| cattle drives and milking sessions together; Steve had a strong |
9 |
| work ethic, a trait that he carried with him through his entire |
10 |
| life; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, While in Missouri, Steve was known as the town |
12 |
| boxer, and he competed in the county fairs;
he honorably served |
13 |
| his country in the United States Marines during World War II, |
14 |
| serving at Pearl Harbor; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Steve was a barber for more than 60 years; his |
16 |
| first shop was in Wilmette, and then he lived briefly in |
17 |
| Brevard, North Carolina, before coming to Carterville in July |
18 |
| 1980; he was a member of the Carterville First United Methodist |
19 |
| Church, the Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary |
20 |
| Club, the Carterville American Legion Post, the Carterville |
21 |
| Pantry, the Garden Club, and the USMC Shawnee Detachment |
22 |
| League; he served as a city council member for more than 16 |
23 |
| years; and |
24 |
| WHEREAS, He was a hard-working father and grandfather who |
25 |
| loved the St. Louis Cardinals and loved to grow his hybrid tea |
26 |
| roses, but most of all he loved his family and helping people |
27 |
| in his community; and
|
28 |
| WHEREAS, Richard A. Stevenson is survived by his son, |
29 |
| Richard Allen Stevenson II of Carterville; his daughters and |
