SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Susie M. Jones Williams on
4 Wednesday, May 3, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on June 20, 1917, in West Point,
6 Mississippi, to Julia and William Jones Sr.; she was a very
7 vocal child and enjoyed singing from the age of ten years old;
8 she accepted Christ as her personal savior on August 1, 1927,
9 and was baptized; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She married Eugene Williams Sr. on January 28,
11 1934, and they shared 53 years of marriage; in 1943, they moved
12 to Chicago, where she became a member of Holy Rock Baptist
13 Church and went on to join Omega Missionary Baptist Church in
14 1962; and
 
15     WHEREAS, As a member of Omega, she was active in the Doctor
16 Watts Group and the Evelyn Blair Club; she attended Omega until
17 1982, when the Greater Omega Missionary Baptist Church was
18 formed; she was always very active with the prayer band and
19 other ministries; she was loved and respected by her church
20 family, and God was a very important part of her life; she
21 became a member of Progressive Community Church in later years;
22 and
 
23     WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her father
24 and mother, William and Julia Jones Sr.; her husband, Eugene
25 Williams Sr.; her son, Booker T. Williams; her son-in-law,
26 Benjamin Smith Sr.; her granddaughter, Cheryl Smith; and her
27 great-grandson, Eric Washington; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of Susie M. Jones Williams has been
29 deeply felt by many, especially her children, Hattie Cherry
30 (Lott), Estella Smith, Robert L. Williams, Eugene Williams, Jr.

1 (Darcelle), Morris M. Williams (Vernie), Raymond Williams
2 (Lucille), and Stevie Williams; her 28 grandchildren; Helen
3 Williams (whom she raised); her 18 great-grandchildren; her 13
4 great-great-grandchildren; and her many nieces, nephews,
5 cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8 Susie M. Jones Williams, and we extend our sincere condolences
9 to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
10 it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
13 sympathy.
