| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express |
3 |
| their condolences to the family of Olivia Turner, who recently |
4 |
| passed away; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Oliva Dawkins Turner was born in Lake Village, |
6 |
| Arkansas on October 3, 1929; her parents were Willie and Mollie |
7 |
| Dawkins; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, She received a diploma from Lydia's Beauty Culture |
9 |
| School in 1958, and then owned and operated her own shop until |
10 |
| her health failed; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, She served as Worthy Matron of Deborah Chapter No. |
12 |
| 6 of the Eastern Star; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Olivia Turner and Reverend Bennie Turner were |
14 |
| united in marriage on October 13, 1967; her husband was the |
15 |
| founding pastor of the Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, |
16 |
| where she served as First Lady until his passing in 1989; she |
17 |
| joined the Holy Zion Missionary Baptist Church in 1990, and |
18 |
| served as the first President of the Pastor's Aide committee; |
19 |
| she later moved to the Mother's Board where she served |
20 |
| faithfully; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, Olvia Turner is survived by her brother Willie |
22 |
| Dawkins; her child, Janice Lee; her great-great nieces that she |
23 |
| raised as daughters, Tashia Lee and LaNeeShea Lee; her |
24 |
| god-daughter, Christina Smith; her great-great-great niece, |
25 |
| Ra'Niesha Lee; her great-great-great nephews, Ranier Braziel, |
26 |
| Jr., and Darryl Bell, Jr.; her god-granddaughter, Sienna Smith, |
27 |
| her god-sister, Lucille Jumper; and a host of step-children, |
28 |
| step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; |
