SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of William Henry Dittmann, who passed away
4 on October 25, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on May 2, 1912 in St. Louis, Missouri;
6 his parents were the late Robert W. and Estelle (Bluthardt)
7 Dittmann; and
 
8     WHEREAS, William Dittmann married Catherine Siegmund on
9 November 30, 1935 in Webster Groves, Missouri; she preceded him
10 in death; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He graduated from Webster Groves High School and
12 attended Washington University in St. Louis; he worked for the
13 Winchester Arms Division of the Olin Corporation for 44 years;
14 in 1933 he joined the Western Cartridge Company, a predecessor
15 company, as a shipping clerk; he worked his way up the ranks,
16 becoming assistant sales manager at East Alton in 1951; he then
17 went to New Haven, Connecticut to work as an ammunition
18 marketing manager; in 1961 he returned to Alton as central area
19 sales manager for the Winchester-Western Division, retiring in
20 1977; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Mr. Dittmann was involved in historic
22 preservation in the Alton area; along with his wife Catherine,
23 he spent much of his time after retirement preserving their
24 historic home in Alton; and
 
25     WHEREAS, He was an avid sportsman, wildlife supporter, and
26 preservationist; he was a member of the Alton Landmarks
27 Association, Lockhaven Country Club, a supporter of the
28 National Rifle Association, and a member of the First Unitarian
29 Church of Alton; and

1     WHEREAS, William Dittmann is survived by his daughter and
2 son-in-law, Jane Dittmann and Donald H. Voss; his
3 grandchildren; and his sister, Dorothy Mill Biggs; and
 
4     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, Robert W.
5 Dittmann II, and his sister, Jane D. Betz; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8 his family and friends, the passing of William Dittmann; and be
9 it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of William Dittmann.
