SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Francis Rees of Granite City, Illinois;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, Francis Rees was born September 23, 1922 in
6 Granite City; he was a decorated veteran, serving in the United
7 States Navy during World War II, aboard the U.S.S. Guam and the
8 U.S.S. Sims; he married Mary Helen Bruck on June 6, 1946, at
9 St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He was a general manager with the Suburban Journal
11 and the Salem Times Commoner, and recently retired from the
12 Troy Times Tribune; he was a member of the Illinois Press
13 Association and the Southern Illinois Editorial Association;
14 and
 
15     WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy
16 from St. Louis University, and continued his studies in
17 Philosophy and Theology; He loved nature, amateur photography,
18 jazz music, and playing the saxophone and clarinet; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Francis Rees is survived by his loving wife of 60
20 years, Mary Helen "Louise" Rees; his children, Ursula
21 Jostedt(husband, Mike), Joan Burks (husband, John), Donna
22 McCoy (husband, Lonnie), Tom Rees (wife, Debe), David Rees
23 (wife, Kathy), Mary Lou Lyerla (husband, Tim), Mark Rees (wife,
24 Felicia), Melanie Rees, Emily Rees (companion, Alexander
25 Wilson), Jean Marie Causey (companion, Doug Smith), Andrew Rees
26 (wife, Lisa), and Stephanie Squibb (husband, Dennis); his 30
27 grandchildren, Michael and Katie Jostedt, Emily Ellis, Sarah,
28 Zachary, and David Burks, Aaron, Nicholas, and Lindsey McCoy,
29 Tia, Thommy, Rachel, and Austin Rees, Megan Lyerla, Peter,
30 Alexander, Max and Molly Rees, Emily Claire and Evan Wilson,
31 Dominic Rees, Oliver, Madeline, and Jonathan Causey, Guinevere

1 and Douglas Smith, Andraya Rees, and Brooke, Mallory, and
2 Claire Squibb; his four great-grandchildren, Lewis, Mia
3 Claire, Isabella, and Dorian; and many nieces, nephews and
4 other extended family and friends; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
7 his family and friends, the death of Francis Rees; and be it
8 further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Francis Rees.
