SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Reverend Allan F. Kirk was a jovial Jesuit
3 priest more likely to inspire laughs than fear as a dean of
4 discipline and teacher of Latin at St. Ignatius College
5 Preparatory; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Father Kirk passed away on August 9, 2006; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The beloved son of the late Aloysius A. and Ann M.
8 (nee Hoare) Kirk, Father Kirk grew up in Chicago and attended
9 Catholic grade schools before graduating from St. Ignatius in
10 1952; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Father Kirk entered the Milford Novitiate in Ohio
12 when he was 18, earning a degree in Latin and philosophy; he
13 later earned a master's degree in history from Loyola
14 University and did advanced studies in counseling and guidance
15 as well as philosophy; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Father Kirk was ordained as a priest on June 10,
17 1965; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Father Kirk was dean of students at St. Ignatius
19 on Chicago's Near West Side from 1971 until 1977, then taught
20 at the school until 1990; he later served for 10 years as a
21 chaplain at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood; since
22 2001, he had served as spiritual director, periodical
23 librarian, and switchboard operator at the Jesuit Residence at
24 Loyola University and performed mass on weekends at Ascension
25 Church in Oak Park; and
 
26     WHEREAS, Before coming to St. Ignatius, Father Kirk worked
27 at Catholic high schools in Indianapolis and Cincinnati; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of the Reverend Allan F. Kirk is

1 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his
2 cousin, Rose Mary Bohn; and his many colleagues, patients, and
3 countless numbers of former students who will dearly miss his
4 inspiration and compassion; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7 the Reverend Allan F. Kirk, and we extend our sincere
8 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
9 him; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to his family and to St. Ignatius College Prep as an
12 expression of our deepest sympathy.
