SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Roy Lee Nash on Friday, July 28, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Roy Lee Nash was born to the union of Andrew and Cora Spencer Nash on March 28, 1928, in Dancy, Alabama; he attended Garrison Elementary and Lovejoy High School; he confessed a belief in Christ at an early age at St. John Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, In 1947, Mr. Nash became one of the founding members of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and member of the Trustee Board; and

WHEREAS, He was united in holy matrimony to Lois Elender Givhan on April 11, 1954; he served in the United States Army at Ft. Leonard Wood as a clerk; and

WHEREAS, He retired from American Waterworks after 40 years of service; he also worked for World Book Encyclopedia as District Manager; he was a manager of St. Paul #42 Masonic Lodge and a board member of Southern Illinois Health Institute; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nash had various nicknames, including Bull, Buggy Wuggy, Bookman, and Dr. Nash; he was known and loved by everyone; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Roy Lee Nash has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Lois E. Nash; his children, Micheline Harris, Dacia Nash-Travis, Gregory (Zena) Nash, and Roger (Rhonda) Nash; his grandchildren, Delicia Harris, Danielle Harris, Deanna Harris, Keiland Nash, Reishia Douglas, Ajina' Lowry, Darrious Nash, and Ratisha Nash; his great-grandchild, Delilah Billinghurst; his brother, William (Maggie) Nash; his sister, Callie Woodard; his brothers-in-law, Walter Adam (Grace) Givhan and Robert (Stella) Givhan; his sisters-in-law, Bertha Oliver, Hattie Pearl Givhan, Margaret Nash, and Azalee Dill; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends; he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister in infancy, and his brothers, Richard Dill, Samuel L. Nash, and Arthur Nash; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roy Lee Nash, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
