| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of David MacDonald Gooder of |
4 |
| Chicago, on July 22, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago in 1917; he graduated |
6 |
| second in his class from New Trier High School; he graduated |
7 |
| from Harvard University with a major in economic theory and |
8 |
| then received his law degree from Northwestern Law School; he |
9 |
| was united in marriage in 1941 to the former Elizabeth Hunter; |
10 |
| he was a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, He was a longtime Downers Grove resident, moving |
12 |
| there with his wife following the war and joining the |
13 |
| international law firm of Lord, Bissell & Brook in 1946; he was |
14 |
| an active member of the local community, serving on the Village |
15 |
| Council from 1963 to 1967, the Downers Grove Library Board from |
16 |
| 1959 to 1963, the DuPage Economic Development Council from 1983 |
17 |
| to 1985, the executive committee of the Oak Brook Development |
18 |
| Co. from 1964 to 1978, and was treasurer and chief financial |
19 |
| officer of the Butler Co. from 1966 to 1981; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, He had a passion for the theater, having appeared |
21 |
| in more than 35 plays; he was proud of helping to build the |
22 |
| Theatre of Western Springs, of which he was an active member |
23 |
| from 1955 to 2000, and also of founding the Arts Business |
24 |
| Council; he further supported the arts through his actions as |
25 |
| chairman of the Advisory Council of DePaul University Theatre |
26 |
| School and board member of the League of Chicago Theatres and |
27 |
| the Court Theatre; he also served as president of the Illinois |
28 |
| Community Theatre Association, the American Community Theatre |
29 |
| Association, and the American Theatre Association during the |
30 |
| 1970s and 1980s; and

| WHEREAS, Following the passing of his wife, he married |
