SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Beverly Jean Nicholson on Tuesday, May 2, 2006; and

WHEREAS, She was born on December 12, 1947, in Chicago to Willie and Lucille Hill; she attended Chicago Public Schools, graduating from Farragut High School; she married Henry Nicholson on August 21, 1972; he preceded her in death; and

WHEREAS, She was employed with the Chicago Public Schools as a teacher's aide at Turner Drew Language Academy; she furthered her education by obtaining her PhD and became a Master Herbalist; she realized her lifelong dream by opening the Herbal Connection Holistic Health Spa in the Bronzeville area; she was currently a Senior Divisional Manager for Nature's Sunshine Products and was well known and respected in the holistic medicine industry; and

WHEREAS, Known affectionately as "Doc", Ms. Nicholson was a major link in many relationships as a loving wife of 22 years, a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, cousin, neighbor, employer, and friend; her unselfish love, compassion, humorous anecdotes, and genuine care for family and friends made her special; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Beverly Jean Nicholson has been deeply felt by many, especially the love of her life, Beverly Denedi, also known as lil Beverly; her children, Nikki Nicholson, Dominick Nicholson, Eletha Evans, Tonia Flowers, Lawanda (Gregory) Brown, and Lavance (Yolanda) Nicholson; her special beloved godson, Lawrence Ingram; her grandchildren, Sean, Arthelia, Sheronda, Christian, Isaiah, LeRon, and Leotis (Bevy); her brother, Willie Hill Jr.; her sisters, Rokatrice Redmond and Shirley Young; her aunts, Beatrice Patterson and Izetta Braden; her special niece, Tammy (Carlton) Ballard; her other godchildren, Sharon, Kenya, Jessica, Breanna, and Ramon (Ronnie); her special friends, Edna Sanders, Marsha Brown, Lanice Sanders, Carolyn Butler, and Patty Futtkell; Medina Nance and Dr. Arlene Taylor; and her many other relatives and close friends; in addition to her husband, Henry, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wayne Hill; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Beverly Jean Nicholson, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
