| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the recent death of Lorraine M. Larsen |
4 |
| of Waukegan; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Lorraine and her future husband met through the |
6 |
| gentle urging of his good friend and golf partner, her brother, |
7 |
| Carl Mathes; she and Richard (Dick) became high school |
8 |
| sweethearts and married at Christ Episcopal Church on September |
9 |
| 10, 1939; he preceded her in death in 1986, but for 46 years |
10 |
| they enjoyed an active social life supported by their strong |
11 |
| circle of friends from the mills and bowling alleys of Lake |
12 |
| County, who joined them on their many travels, golf outings, |
13 |
| and regular card games and dinner; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Her professional career included secretarial work |
15 |
| for local businesses plus a 15 year career with Abbott |
16 |
| Laboratories, where she served as Executive Secretary in the |
17 |
| Abbott International Division; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Larsen was a charter member of St. Paul's |
19 |
| Lutheran Church, where she cheerfully served on many |
20 |
| committees, boards, and outreach activities, including the |
21 |
| PADS program; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, She exemplified the meaning of mother, friend, and |
23 |
| neighbor and was a consummate volunteer and active citizen of |
24 |
| Waukegan; she contributed countless hours to the pursuit of her |
25 |
| children's education, sports interests, and appreciation of |
26 |
| the arts; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, The community will be forever grateful for her |
28 |
| tireless efforts to her many causes, including the C.O.O.L. |
29 |
| Food Pantry as a founder and volunteer; as a Director for the |
30 |
| Waukegan Historical Society, where she spearheaded efforts to |
