SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the recent death of Lorraine M. Larsen of Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine and her future husband met through the gentle urging of his good friend and golf partner, her brother, Carl Mathes; she and Richard (Dick) became high school sweethearts and married at Christ Episcopal Church on September 10, 1939; he preceded her in death in 1986, but for 46 years they enjoyed an active social life supported by their strong circle of friends from the mills and bowling alleys of Lake County, who joined them on their many travels, golf outings, and regular card games and dinner; and

WHEREAS, Her professional career included secretarial work for local businesses plus a 15 year career with Abbott Laboratories, where she served as Executive Secretary in the Abbott International Division; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Larsen was a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she cheerfully served on many committees, boards, and outreach activities, including the PADS program; and

WHEREAS, She exemplified the meaning of mother, friend, and neighbor and was a consummate volunteer and active citizen of Waukegan; she contributed countless hours to the pursuit of her children's education, sports interests, and appreciation of the arts; and

WHEREAS, The community will be forever grateful for her tireless efforts to her many causes, including the C.O.O.L. Food Pantry as a founder and volunteer; as a Director for the Waukegan Historical Society, where she spearheaded efforts to computerize and professionally catalogue the collections and archives and was a chairwoman for the Annual Tour of Historic Homes; as a Grade School Band Parent; and as a volunteer with the Friends of the Waukegan Library; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Lorraine M. Larsen has been deeply felt by many, especially her children, Penny (John) Petitclair, David (Dian) Larsen, and Richard (Judi) Larsen; her grandchildren, Deborah (Ron) Koth, Ann (Kevin) Grebner, Kristin Larsen, Eric Larsen, and Brian Larsen; her great-grandchildren, Ron and Kyle Koth, Caroline and Claire Grebner; and her nieces; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lorraine M. Larsen, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
